Robert Hughes talks about his book, The Fatal Shore and his native country, Australia. Hughes discusses the origins of the penal colonies and the crimes English people had committed that caused them to be banished to "the fatal shore" of Australia. In this 1987 interview with Don Swaim, Hughes also tells how he became an art lover and art critic, eventually working for Time Magazine. Listen
