Audio Interview with Karl Shapiro |
|
Poet and author, Karl Shapiro talks with Don Swaim about H. L. Mencken, the writing of his autobiography, and his poetry. Shapiro started writing poetry while he was in the army, sending his poems home to be published. He says that there is an element of escapism involved in writing poetry. By the time he left the army he was already an established poet. Since then he has produced numerous collections of his work and won the Pulitzer Prize. Swaim and Shapiro talk about this and more in this 1988 interview. Listen
