John Edgar Wideman discusses his book, Philadelphia Fire, in this 1991 interview. The book is based on the 1985 police bombings of a West Philadelphia house row that was owned by the Afrocentric cult, MOVE. Wideman describes MOVE's intentions and tells us if he thinks the bombings were fueled by race.

In this 1989 interview with Don Swaim, John Edgar Wideman talks of his interest in the work of Reverend Richard Allen. He also talks about growing up in Pittsburgh and what influenced him to become a writer. Wideman also briefly discusses his career as a professional basketball player in Europe, and his first book, The Glance Away. He is also the author of: The Philladelphia Fire, Hiding Place, and a memoir entitled Brothers and Keepers.
