Don Swaim Interviews

Audio Interview with George Plimpton

George Plimpton

George Plimpton, best know as the author of Paper Lion: Confessions of a Last-String Quarterback, was also the cofounder of The Paris Review. In 1986, Plimpton bicycled to Don Swaim's New York studio for this interview.

Plimpton started the magazine in 1953 in Paris, France with a group of English speaking writers living in the area after World War II. Several literary magazines were beginning at the time and as an English language review, it was hard to believe that the magazine would find success starting out in Paris.

However, due the diversity of the content, including more than the usual criticisms and essays, the magazine's success exploded in America. Eventually the publication moved over to the states, where it continues to find success.
