Audio Interviews with Gail Godwin

Gail Godwin talks with Don Swaim in this 1984 interview about her literary family, her beginnings in journalism and how she moved into writing fiction. She had difficulties gaining a foothold in writing, and credits Kurt Vonnegut Jr. for giving her the inspiration after attending his workshop. They discuss some of her novels including some that did not make it very far. Some of her books include: The Perfectionists, The Finishing School, and The Odd Women.

In this 1987 interview, Gail Godwin returns to talk with Don Swaim about segregation, and the southern states. She addresses the nervousness authors get about the quality of their work, and the frustrations of writing. Although she has gone to the Northern states, she tells why she will always be Southern oriented.
