Evan HunterEvan Hunter, originally named Salvatore Lombino, wrote the best selling novel, The Blackboard Jungle, and the screenplay for Alfred Hitchcock's classic horror film, The Birds. Hunter also published under the pen names Curt Cannon, Hunt Collins, Ezra Hannon, Ed McBain, and Richard Marsten. His novels have been purchased by over 100 million people worldwide.

In this 1984 interview with Don Swaim, Evan Hunter talks about growing up in New York, his experiences in the Navy and why he started to write while in the Navy. Hunter also discusses how his first book, The Blackboard Jungle, came about. He also previews his novel, Lizzie, and gives advice to aspiring young writers.
