Audio Interview with Christopher Hope |
| Christopher Hope, author of Separate Development, Sails of Hope: The Secret Mission of Christopher Columbus and more, speaks with Don Swaim in this 1982 interview about his book, Separate Development, which he says is partially autobiographical. He tells stories of what it was like to grow up as a white man in South Africa, which usually meant dealing with a superiority he was taught to believe he had for reasons he could never put his finger on. It was something he always found very odd as the whites in South Africa represented a very small minority. Hope now lives in London as a sort of exile from his native land. Many of his books were banned in South Africa for its commentary on race relations. He predicts white rule in South Africa cannot and will not survive. Listen

For over a decade, many of the best writers of the English language found their way onto Don Swaim's daily two-minute CBS Radio show, Book Beat. His New York-based program was derived from longer interviews, sometimes 40-minutes in length. Found exclusively here, Wired for Books proudly webcasts these conversations in their entirety using RealAudio. © Ohio University |
