Audio Interviews with Bobbie Ann Mason

Bobbie Ann Mason discusses the research and writing process she took for of her novel, In Country, which is set in western Kentucky and centers around the Vietnam war. She also discusses her collection of short stories, Shiloh and Other Stories, originally published in The New Yorker and went on to become a finalist for the National Book Award and other awards. She also discusses growing up in Mayfield, Kentucky, her journalism writing and work as well as teaching journalism.

Bobbie Ann Mason, author of Spence and Lila, The Girl Sleuth and Shiloh, talks with Don Swaim in this 1989 interview. She talks about the movie made from her book, In Country and her involvement with writing the screenplay. After having trouble with her first novel, Mason began to write and continues to write about Kentucky, where she grew up and discusses her love for the state and her reasons for writing about it.
