Don Swaim Interviews

Audio Interview with Bill Ballantine

Bill Ballantine

Bill Ballantine set out to be an artist and a writer, but soon fell in love with the circus, especially the clowns. After learning the trade from fellow clowns, he spent eight years touring with Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus. Then he settled down and wrote a book, Clown Alley, about the life of clowns. Ballantine and Swaim also discuss the ins and outs of the circus world and more in this 1982 interview.
