Interview with Ann Beattie |
| In this 1985 interview with Don Swaim, Ann Beattie considers herself lucky to be a writer as she began her career with little ambition to write. She made her way into college and as her academic career was wilting, her skills as a writer were beginning to blossom. Her books include The Doctor's House, Secrets and Surprises and Love Always. Beattie explains that it is important to feel your way into writing, which determines the direction of a novel without imposing a preexisting form on to it.
