Audio Interview with Amiri Baraka
(also known as LeRoi Jones)

 

Amiri BarakaAuthor, playwright and poet, Amiri Baraka, speaks with Don Swaim in this 1984 interview. As a young reader, Baraka's access to books was limited, but he finished school at Howard University and later went on to join the Air Force, where he developed a love for books. Swaim brings up the speech-like quality of Amiri Baraka's writing, explained by Baraka as trying to capture the sense of speech used in his community.
